Soil Management

Many tree companies only look upward when examining trees. But at ArborCo we have proven that thorough examination of potential issues below the ground yield the solution to many tree problems in relation to tree hazards and tree health. ArborCo is unique in arboriculture and horticulture in offering a range of specialised soil improvement processes that dramatically develop, improve or remedy soil related issues.

Soil Fertility

Good soil fertility and structure are essential for long-term tree health. Often the slow decline of a tree (often over many decades) is a result of poor soil conditions. ArborCo offer both short and long-term treatments to improve your soil fertility.

Soil Quality

Good soil structure, aeration and nutrients together with microorganisms form a balanced environment that supports healthy plants and trees. ArborCo uses a variety of skills, methods and equipment to re-adjust the balance of your soil, so often required in the suburban environment. ArborCo’s treatments promote soil flora and fauna via soil aeration and the application of balanced mixtures of organic materials and extracts, fertilisers and friendly microbial enzymes and bacteria which all assist in the breakdown of organic matter and promote nutrient delivery to trees and plants.

Garden drainage

Garden Drainage

Are heavy rains causing run-off or pooling water in your property? Compacted soils from years of drought, pedestrian and vehicle traffic reduce water and nutrient delivery to tree and plant roots that cause poor water absorption, then stress and declining health in your trees and plants. Poor garden soil drainage results in water and expensive nutrient run-off that then has a negative effect on our rivers and ocean. ArborCo can help you improve your garden’s soil drainage via aeration and added soil structure, which help not only your garden’s trees and plants but also the wider environment.

Remediate Soil Problems

ArborCo specialises in identifying soil problems, then recommending and applying treatments and processes that reduce or eliminate most soil problems. We are unique in offering you the specialist range of soil improvement skills, products and services that will rebalance your soil’s structure and fertility long-term.

Soil treatment

Soil Treatment

Treating soils to add nutrients, adjust Ph or improve microbial activity are vital for tree and plant health long-term. Identification of soil problems and treating issues identified is a specialist area of expertise within ArborCo.

Core drilling is a proven method of soil treatment to assist stressed trees and offers instant deep wetting and nutrient feeding for trees in dry, compacted or degraded soils. Several “cores” are drilled around the tree. These are then filled with a combination of materials depending on the health problem present. Water can then be added for improved retention and long-term feeding. In addition to core drilling, surface soil treatments and organic mulch can be applied for sustained soil improvement.

Compacted soil

Compacted Soil

The effects of drought, pedestrian, machine and vehicle traffic on soil is relatively quick and results in long lasting soil compaction. Soil compaction takes place when the soil structure is compressed and air is expelled and water permeability is reduced. This robs the soil micro flora and fauna of essential oxygen and water and dramatically slows or halts the organic regeneration process. Once the organic process is disrupted, plants and trees suffer as feeder roots decay and receive reduced nutrient flows. Suburban trees and plants are particularly affected by soil compaction and display significant decline when faced with compacted soils.

Aerating soil

Aerating Soil

ArborCo’s soil decompaction process, Terralift, creates pathways for air, water and nutrients to enter into the root-zone delivering beneficial deep watering and soil aeration. Our unique Terralift sub-soil probe releases explosive charges of air creating fissures within heavily compacted soil structures. These fissures instantly decompact the soil allowing air, water and nutrients to flow directly to the root zones of trees, plants and turf.

Benefits of ArborCo’s soil aeration technology –Terralift:

• Relieves compaction from cars, pedestrians or building works.
• Improves water use, retention and reduces run-off and erosion.
• Improves soil drainage and nutrient pathways.
• Improves tree, plant and turf long-term health.

Soil Drainage

If you are noticing increased run-off or pooling of water after rains this can be an indication of poor soil structure or soil compaction. Good drainage of soil is essential to tree and plant health as water pooling can exclude essential oxygen and promote fungal diseases. The use of ArborCo’s soil aeration technology, Terralift can instantly improve soil drainage and tree and plant health prospects.

Septic Tank Drainage

Septic contamination of soil can occur from poor soil aeration and drainage and can bring about a marked decline in tree and plant health very quickly. If you are finding you need to have your septic system pumped more frequently or are experiencing increased septic smells, treating the surrounding areas with ArborCo’s soil aeration methods, such as Terralift, can dramatically improve your septic system’s drainage and speed the natural breakdown of effluent.
