Arbor Co uses a product containing the active ingredient imidacloprid to carry out canopy sprays. This method provides 6 – 8 weeks of protection from Elm Leaf Beetle when applied at the correct time. If applied when adults are active on the tree and eggs are being laid, our tests have shown that adults, eggs and larvae will be controlled.

This is an effective form of treatment as the product is systemic within the tree and fast acting but it does not give the long lasting protection that a soil or stem injection will provide.

The biological insecticide Novador® can also be applied as a canopy spray. The product acts specifically on the first instar larvae and breaks down within a few days of application. The timing of the application is critical. Several applications may be required within the same season.
